World Cup Zeros

July 4, 2010

I think Robert Green got his most embarrassing World Cup moment out of the way early on during the World Cup, and he’s probably grateful for that. Of course, his team mates were to steal the show in the subsequent England games, by putting his mistake firmly in the shade. Tepid performances by an over-hyped and over-paid bunch of players and a manager who eventually claimed his squad were ‘tired’ has done little to win the England fan over. Dismal.

The good news is that the England flags, mugs, flannels and underwear are now available at knockdown prices from the local supermarkets. Read on…

Captain, my captain

February 5, 2010

So JT is no longer England captain. Mmm. Not suprised really given the recent revelations and hasty trial by media over recent days. Of course, I hope JT learns his lesson well and manages to sort everything out with his wife now – out the glare of the spotlight.

It is however interesting to note that our ‘New’  England captain is serving a ban for elbowing a player in the face and our vice captain is prone to brawling in night clubs.

Meanwhile, Chelsea Captain JT led his team with another solid performance at the weekend and ran out 2-0 winners over Arsenal. Ah, business as usual.

JT is a silly man

February 2, 2010

JT is a silly man. What happens next is unclear even though there’s lots of speculation in the media. Will he one day be remembered in the sports history books as a footballing saint, a great leader on the football pitch, or a guy who spectacularly slipped up (not just in the Champions League!) or a plonker? I suspect all the above.

For me he is Chelsea through and through and if those who he plays with at Chelsea FC still have respect for the guy, as a man and a leader he should remain as CFC captain, and possibly England captain. He did wrong, no excuses BUT let’s be honest, we all fail, make mistakes and let other people down at times. Even hurting those closest to us.

Whose to say that others in the England set up are squeaky clean?

JT has done wrong, is paying for it in a number of ways and hopefully the media witch hunt will stop.

As for the other woman, she’s no angel either, with ‘further revelations’ likely. Let’s remember this as we see her run into the clutches of a certain Mr Clifford and his tabloid friends… with the promise of a handsome payout.

Snow use

February 3, 2009

Snow fell overnight so Monday was spent entertaining the kids on the computer, rather than traipsing along to school to find it closed. Mid morning we ventured out into the garden for a snowball fight, a photo session and general merriment. We saw our neighbours doing something similar, and we welcomed friends in for coffee and chat.

In the early evening we treated the boys to a viewing of The Fox and The Child. It was pretty awful, (IMHO) the story (?)  followed the exploits of a cute little girl who for some strange reason took a liking to vermin. As the film drew to a close, I pointed out of course that we sometimes had foxes leap into our garden, and however cute they looked, were not to be trusted and certainly not welcome in our house.

The movie was set in a land full of snow, and the photography had a certain appeal but there were no shots of stranded cars, trains, buses or jacknifed lorries on the M25. Nor did we see ordinary folk walking along strangely quiet snow filled roads in search of essential provisions of milk, bread or newspapers.

I was unable to get excited about job searching. Today we simply took time out as a family, snow joke.
